Midwinter Melodies: A Baroque Parlour Concert at Alberton.

Rendell McIntosh from Alberton

Experience the ambiance of the ballroom at historic Alberton filled with music in this intimate Sunday evening at the homestead!

Following a sold out performance last year, players from NZ Barok - New Zealand’s only period instrument orchestra - return for this light-hearted one hour concert, presenting an assortment of Baroque musical gems with a touch of history.

Musicians Miranda Hutton, Janne Ensor, Wen Chuan Lin and Helen Brinkman will be joined by special guest soprano Rowena Simpson. Rowena studied baroque singing in the Netherlands after graduating in musicology at the NZ School of Music. She worked with early music ensembles in Europe for six years before returning to Wellington where she enjoys a career performing as a soloist and ensemble singer. The concert will feature a sumptuous selection of music including Handel, Purcell, Rogr, Monteclair, Rameau, Vivaldi and Scarlatti.

Tickets include drinks & canapes served from 4pm and entry to explore the house.

Sunday 18 August, 4:30pm. Tickets: adult $30, senior/student $26. BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL. To book contact Alberton at alberton@heritage.org.nz or (09) 8567367

Happy Tuesday neighbours, here's a riddle to get your mind going.

Riddler from The Neighbourly Riddler

I am beautiful, up in the sky.
I am magical, yet I cannot fly.
To some I bring luck, and to some, I bring riches.
The boy at my end does whatever he wishes.
What am I?

Poll: Should you ask before planting tall shrubs/trees near your property line?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

It may be fine now but in a few years trees can block out light or views for neighbours.

Do you think neighbours should ask before they go ahead and plant these?
