Tenants left 'starting from scratch' after fire destroys home and belongings
Five flatmates are trying to rebuild their lives after a fire destroyed their North Canterbury home and most of their belongings.
Michaela Robin said she was with her four flatmates at a family event in Hawarden, in the Hurunui district, when a neighbour called to say their home on Dover St in Leithfield was on fire about 11.30pm on Friday.
The fire burned through the lounge and kitchen, completely destroying everything in its path. The rest of the house was badly damaged by smoke.
