Traditional feast to celebrate Matariki in Christchurch's red zone
Traditionally cooked hāngi, fried bread and boil up warmed the mouths of hundreds of hungry visitors at an event celebrating Matariki in Christchurch.
Matariki in the Zone, on Saturday celebrated the beginning of the Māori New Year, with Matariki marking the reappearance of the seven Matariki stars.
Held at Avebury House and the Richmond Community Gardens in the city's, attendees were served free food accompanied by live music and entertainment including classes in wood carving, flax weaving and kite making.
