Lime eyes a new territory - a semi-rural district with plenty of open road
Decision makers in a mostly-rural district are split on whether to welcome Lime's electric scooters, due in part to concerns about riders taking to the open road and risking serious injury.
The company was on Wednesday given cautious approval by the Selwyn District Council to undertake a trial of 200 scooters in Rolleston, west of Christchurch, on the condition numerous issues were resolved first.
It would be the first community outside of a major urban area in New Zealand to host the scooters, which are popular in Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin.
