Stolen sign returned to quake-hit North Canterbury township Waiau
Waiau's cherished wooden sign has been returned to its rightful home above the quake-hit North Canterbury township.
The 1.7m long and 600mm high sign, milled from a slab of Oregon timber and crafted by local tradesmen, was taken from its limestone base beside Leader Rd last Sunday night - but by Friday afternoon it was back in place.
"Everyone is delighted that it's back and that's the main thing," resident Caroline Eastmond says.
