Thousands turn out for eighth annual Hororata Highland Games
A flurry of tartan flocked into mid Canterbury for an annual showcase of Celtic culture.
About 9000 visitors headed to the Hororata Highland Games on Saturday to see highland dancers fling, drum majors twirl their maces and strong men and women toss cabers.
More than 500 competitors tried their hand in various events, from the tug of war and sack carry to smallbore rifle shooting.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
