Stats for February 2018
Sorry we don't update our Neighbourly page very often as our main social media is Facebook.
FEB 2018 STATS
It still amazes me how much work our 72 volunteers do each month with the generosity of you the general public and our food sponsors.
For the 28 days in February we distributed a WHOPPING 16,638.92 kgs of food (fresh, frozen and non-perishable). In the North Island we had 2 pallets of frozen food stock donated to us by Heinz Watties in the Hawkes Bay. We also had 1 pallet of tinned tuna donated to us by Talleys in the South Island.
We also contributed over 2,000 individual serve bottles of water to the Titahi Bay Beach Festival earlier this month.
KCA volunteers have also sorted and made up 149 banana boxes of clothing, shoes, linen and homewares plus distributed 1 complete single bed, 1 complete portacot with mattress, 3 car seat/capsules, 1 ironing board, 3 chest of drawers, 1 mirror, 3 dining chairs and a table, microwave, 2 ride on toys, 2 boogie boards, bathroom scales, 1 heater.
Not all of our stats are in from the local foodbanks that we distribute food/non food items to but KCA has assisted over 3,500 people this month.
HUGE THANKS to our dedicated team of volunteers who are out and about 7 days a week doing food rescue at set times from the local supermarkets.
Also thanks to volunteer drivers who go around at set times and clear all our drop off points. We are still not collecting any furniture or whiteware at present as we are short on volunteers to do this.
Thanks to all the volunteers who then sort, box and make up all the orders for the various agencies that we assist.
Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
-
59.4% Yes, supporting people is important!
-
26.3% No, individuals should take responsibility
-
14.3% ... It is complicated
