Transport update

Hutt City Council

Good morning, we hope you had a more restful evening last night.

8:00am UPDATE

WORK OR SCHOOLS:
Central Wellington and Lower Hutt are open for business today but do check in with your employers or landlords on the status of your workplace.
Check directly with your employer, school and/or day care to see if they will be open.

Keep yourselves safe: do not go sightseeing, and watch for uneven surfaces or debris and glass underfoot. Avoid areas that have been cordoned off. It is also advised to stay out of the water today.

TRANSPORT

ROADS: Are all open, but please drive to the conditions, we have a high wind and heavy rain warning across the region today
TRAINS: All services on the Wellington network have been given clearance to return to normal, except the Wairarapa line which will run at a reduced capacity.
The Capital Connection will be replaced by buses.
BUSES: Bus diversions will be in place through central Wellington today as inspections continue on CBD buildings following the recent earthquakes and high winds overnight. All stops in Manners Street, Lower Willis Street and Lambton Quay are closed. Check the Metlink site for further details.
PARKING: Some parking buildings are still being assessed and it is likely that some will be closed today. Queensgate is closed today.
The Lower Hutt Riverbank Car Park is closing at 8:10am.
FERRIES: East By West ferry is not running. Interislander is running with vehicle passengers only. Bluebridge is running but with disruptions.
Wellington airport is fully operational.

COUNCIL FACILITIES

All community halls are open for those that have made bookings. The Hutt CIty i-SITE will also open today.
A call on The Dowse Art Musuem, the six pools, the Walter Nash Centre, and eight libraries around the city will be made later this morning.

BUSINESS & BUILDINGS

If you are a tenant of a building that has suffered structural damage please notify the owner in the first instance and then inform Council of the address. We are working as quickly as possible to carry out rapid assessments of high risk buildings and those that have sustained structural damage.
Queensgate is being assessed by engineers and will be closed Tuesday 15 November.

WATER & POWER
Water is safe to drink including artesian water.
Please report any water problems to Hutt City Council on 04 570 6666 and we will log a job with Wellington Water.
With heavy rain forecast for our region. If safe to do so please clear the sumps and drains around your house and if you see any flooding contact Council on 04 570 6666.

Wellington Water says water treatment plants are functioning properly. There are no reports of reservoir damage or bulk supply issues.

ELECTRICITY
There are currently no known outages, visit the Wellington Electricity website to check any outages.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?

They depend on us
Is your house fenced
Does your landlord know u have a pet? Don't forget vet bills
And a comfortable place to sleep hopefully inside..
Don't forget good nutritious food, and daily walks, just remember check foot path on hot days by placing your hand or bare foot on it to see if too hot for your doggies paws, best early in the morning or late in afternoon when temperature is cooler..OK im not saying I'm the best owner my girl was left home alone while I was at work even though I took her for long walks in the morning..sensitive subject If u have to put your precious fur baby to rest because of horrible uncurable
Illness have the vet come to your home don't do it at a vet clinic that is the place stresses them out..
My girl had cancer
And the vet wanted to put to sleep in the clinic he made up every excuse, but I rang around and found wonderful vet in waterloo, they were so kind and we agreed on a day..
