Historic Kopu Bridge open gates
Historic Kōpū Bridge’s gates will be open on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd January, from 7am to 6pm both days, weather permitting. More than 600 people spent some time on the bridge at Labour weekend, showing that this Category 1 Heritage site is definitely becoming a popular place to stroll, cycle, sketch, birdwatch or meet for a chat.
Admission to the Historic Kōpū Bridge is free: donations are always appreciated and will be put towards getting the swing span functioning again during 2021. If you would like to join the roster for these days or volunteer to help at future events and working bees, please get in touch.
The bridge is fully wheelchair accessible.

Purple Poppy Day Saturday 21st February
Thames Museum Te Whare Taonga o te Kauaeranga is delighted to be working with Thames RSA to hold our town’s first Purple Poppy Day on 21st February. Purple Poppy day is held throughout the Commonwealth to honour the animals that served and died during WWI and WWII and continue to serve in current conflicts.
Our inaugural Purple Poppy Day features creatures from glowworms and pigeons to camels and elephants.
The competition on the day, PEOPLE AND PETS WEAR PURPLE and/or KHAKI is a fun way to get involved, with lots of neat prizes.
PEOPLE AND PETS WEAR PURPLE and/or KHAKI will be held weather permitting. All other activities will take place inside the museum is the weather isn’t so good.
