Northland Chamber of Commerce appoints new chief executive

Reporter Whangārei Leader

The Northland Chamber of Commerce has announced the appointment of Stephen Smith as its new chief executive, following the resignation of Tony Collins who has taken a new position at the Whangarei District Council.
Smith has a business background, both in New Zealand, and abroad, working with companies in both start-up and operational mode. He brings commercial acumen and a passion for seeing business grow and prosper, with an eye on a succession plan for the future.
Smith says, “I am very excited to be joining the Northland Chamber team and adding my energy to an already strong organisation.
"If you are also passionate about business affairs and the necessary infrastructure to drive the North forward I can’t wait to meet with you. Let's make some real noise that can't be ignored.”
A spokesperson says the chamber looks forward to continuing to promote a better business environment for Northland, and is delighted to have Smith on board to enhance this work.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
