THE BLUE CAFTAN
France/Morocco (English subtitles), 2022, Drama, 109 mins, Rated M
Mina and her husband, Halim run a small business in one of Morocco’s oldest medinas. Halim is a master of his trade, hand-embroidering caftans so exquisite, they are like wearing air. Mina is a canny saleswoman, who loves Halim deeply but it is plain for all to see that her health is failing.
But, despite her situation, Mina's concern is for Halim. So, when they hire an assistant to help with the business to allow Mina to rest, she sets herself one final task. Mina subtly begins to weave the two of them into being more than just workmates so that Halim will have someone once she is gone.
The director explores a complex marriage with tenderness and grace in a superbly performed film that unfolds in unexpected and blissful ways. - The Guardian
