Parts of the North Island are expected to be hit by heavy rain and severe gales this week, as Cyclone Fili reaches New Zealand.
Be sure to keep mobile phones charged and ensure you have a car charger for your devices so you can keep in touch and keep informed. It also may pay to have a torch handy (they are safer than candles which can be a fire hazard) and have a gas bottle topped up for cooking.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
