For Thursday, the 27th October at 6pm, WFS will be screening the Spanish satire, The Good Boss.

Our 8pm session will be the English comedy, Ali and Ava.

Re COVID-19: While the government has eased restrictions, mask wearing and observing social distancing is still welcome at our film nights. Please show courtesy to others and their health needs, particularly around the bar and food areas. Thank you.

Benevolent patriarch, Julio Blanco [Javier Bardem] is CEO of a family company that manufactures precision industrial scales and his mission in life is to win a prestigious business award.

With the national committee about to arrive for an inspection, Julio does not care what he must do to win. So, in front of the media, he is all smiles when giving a pep talk to his employees about the importance of community. But behind the scenes, Julio is ruthless with staff and fixates on shutting down a local protest taking place across the road from his factory.

DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.

Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.

For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.

Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?
