The by-election for Northland Regional Council's vacant Whangārei Urban seat closes at midday on February 17. Eight people are standing for the position left vacant by the resignation of councillor John Bain late last year. With less than a week remaining before voting closes, anyone who has not received their postal voting pack should call 0800-922-822, and voters can drop completed voting documents off at the regional council's office in Water St. Have you voted yet? If not, is there a reason why not?

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
