Geoff from Central Whangarei

Good People

The film night for Thursday 7th August for WFS will be in the Capitaine Bougainville Theatre at Forum North, 7 Rust Ave Whangarei.

At 6pm, WFS will screen the very popular British film starring comedian Steve Coogan, The Penguin Lessons.

Our 8pm screening is the powerful and uplifting British drama starring Gillian Anderson, The Salt Path.

THE PENGUIN LESSONS
UK, 2024, Comedy, 107 mins
Rated M (strong language)
Cast: Steve Coogan, Jonathan Pryce
Director: Peter Cattaneo

Based on the book of the same name, the story follows Tom Michell as a British teacher who travels to South America to teach at a boys' boarding school in Argentina in the 1970s.

Whilst on a short holiday in Uruguay, Tom finds a beach with many dead penguins soaked with oil. He sees that one penguin is still alive and takes it to his hotel to clean and feed it.

After that, the penguin keeps following him and, with the school term starting, Tom finally decides to take the penguin with him and smuggle it into the school.

"What starts as a quirky comedy about a cynical man, gradually becomes something more human and moving. A surprisingly wonderful and touching human dramedy." - Movie Geek

Showing at Forum North, 7 Rust Ave Whangarei on Thursday, 7th August at 6pm and Thursday, 14th August at 8pm.
