MAURICE AND I
New Zealand, 2024, Doco, 99 mins
Cast: Sir Miles Warren, Maurice Mahoney
Maurice and I celebrates the architectural partnership of Sir Miles Warren and Maurice Mahoney, whose innovative ‘brutalist’ designs redefined the look of Christchurch architecture in the 1960s and 70s.
During their careers, the two men enhanced the community’s cultural and social fabric. Their work, including the iconic Christchurch Town Hall, was nearly erased by the 2011 earthquakes and they launched a passionate campaign to try to preserve it.
Using rare archival footage and exclusive interviews, the film reflects on their remarkable legacy and the community impact of their bold architectural vision over two decades.
MAURICE AND I is an enthralling exploration of partnership and the enduring importance of architecture in shaping and enriching our lives." IMDB
