Learn te reo Māori!

Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi

Te Pōkaitahi Reo

Meet Parminder Singh (Punjabi) who shares his journey with Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi: “Studying in the Pōkaitahi Reo programme has allowed me to develop a totally beautiful and unique relationship with Māori communities. The learning has helped my work to bridge gaps between Māori and others in our multicultural communities. When I look back, I feel really proud. It’s a great feeling when I speak te reo Māori. It’s a privilege.”

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

In October, the fine for parking in a designated mobility car park without a permit has jumped from $150 to $750—a 400% increase!

The goal is to keep these spaces open for those who truly need them. Do you think this big increase in the fine is fair? Share your thoughts below.

Halloween - The real tradition

Tel from Tikipunga

All hallows eve has always had a spooky tradition along with "Trick and Treat." Notice I wrote "Trick AND Treat." "Trick OR Treat" is just a nonsensical Americanism.

It was a bit like Carol Singers except it was groups of children going door knocking. At each door, the children would offer to do a 'trick'. They might sing or dance or something else. The house holder would give them a reward. Then two months later a church group would do the same and then after singing a carol, they would collect some alms.

I don't know how it got corrupted into the modern, "demanding presents with menaces." Perhaps someone could enlighten me.
