Parua Bay Transfer Station - Council lodge consent to continue operation and expand

Emma from Parua Bay / Whangarei Heads

The Whangarei District Council has lodged a Resource Consent Application for the ongoing running (currently holds no consent) and the expansion (approx $200,000) of the Refuse Transfer Station at Parua Bay Boat Ramp.

The consent has not been publically notified as the Industrial activity has been deemed as minor to the community therefore we, the public can not have our say.

As has been evident at various meetings and from feedback from numerous groups and individuals there is a lack of support for an industrial activity and refuse transfer station operating at this public recreational site.

We would prefer to see fisherman, sailors, rowers, walkers, campers and families using the recreational area not more rubbish trucks, seagulls and waste on a prime site under the magnificent Heads vista.

Please see attached a public notice (by local residents) regarding the application and concern this has not been publicly notified.

Please note that time is of the essence to be heard with your local Councillors or WDC staff.
