Well done and thank you to the people of Whangarei for getting on board with the new blue bin glass recycling.

There have been hardly any mistakes so far in this week’s collection and crews are finding the sorting much easier and safer. With the different materials pre-sorted they are much more valuable to recycling plants and can more easily be turned back in to new products. We aim to make our recycling system as efficient as possible, and having Blue Bins for glass is an important part of that effort.

Around 19,000 blue bins have now been delivered to central Whangarei suburbs with delivery to Bream Bay today and tomorrow, then Mangakaramea through to Kauri for the rest of the week.

Northland Waste will be leaving a sticker on bins where there is glass in the red bin or something other than glass in the blue bin. Residents will need to sort their recycling properly then place it out for collection again next week.

Meet Shane Brearley, one of our Pilots.

“It is all about getting the patient where they need to go – we often don’t know what is happening with the patient until after the mission is completed.” And the calls come thick and fast some days.

A combination of hospital transfers or a full rescue in the rural reaches of Northland’s rugged landscapes – or a long flight over the ocean to a ship or vessel out at sea – its always an unknown of what lays ahead.

No two days are the same, and each and every time the pilots have to ensure the choppers are ready. “It’s always different. Each mission, it is nice to know you are making a difference.

We are there as a pilot to transport these people who need help to get where they need to go, whether it’s a hospital transfer for urgent surgery or a full rescue scenario,” he says.

Please help us keep saving Northland lives by donating today.

Is everyone aware that there is a suggestion at Whangarei District Council that the BACH/Mokaba etc section of the award-winning Town Basin development be demolished for parking for tourist buses?
a) How many tourist buses are they expecting (in excess of those ones that stop at the moment) on how many days in each year?
b) Why can't they use either the area currently leased to Wilson Parking or the old Toyota yard?
c) Aren't all the businesses in that part of the complex ones that the tourist will want to visit?
