Whangarei Film Society - screenings for Thursday April 24th

Geoff from Central Whangarei

Good People

On Thursday, 24th April at 6pm WFS will be screening the heartwarming documentary from Bhutan about census workers who travel the country, chatting with the locals about their satisfaction with life, Agent of Happiness.

Our 8pm screening is the fascinating architectural documentary about two renowned NZ architects, Maurice and I.

Films are screened at Forum North, 7 Rust Ave Whangarei in the Capitaine Bougainville Theatre.

AGENT OF HAPPINESS
Subtitles 2024, Doco, 94 mins,
Cast: Amber Kumar Gurung, Sarita Chettri, Guna Raj Kuikel

Amber sets out on a cross-country road trip as an "Agent of happiness". It is his job to survey the satisfaction of the Bhutanese public, as this crowd-pleasing doco questions whether the Himalayan country really is the happiest place on Earth.

Amber's conversations introduce us to a range of individuals whose aspirations vary considerably, depending on age, ability and location, but common amongst them is a sense of their appreciation of their surroundings.

It is their perception of their simple existence in the mountains with beautiful scenery, fresh air and the blessings of their Gods upon them that seems to provide them with a sense of "less being more" and is the foundation of their fulfilment.

"The Filmmakers capture the true essence of the Bhutan lifestyles and provide some fun, bittersweet and touching interviews and discussions." - IMDB

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
