Whangarei Film Society - Screenings for Thursday April 13th

Geoff from Central Whangarei

Good People

For Thursday, the 13th April at 6pm we are screening the Norwegian comedy, Everyone Hates Johan

Our 8pm screening will be the fascinating NZ doco, When the Cows come Home.

EVERYONE HATES JOHAN
Norway (English subtitles), 2022, Comedy, 93 mins, Rated M

Johan Grande's parents were patriotic Norwegians. During WW2, they risked their lives as they sabotaged the path of the invading Germans. In retrospect, the local community realised that the Grande family just really loved blowing stuff up.

In the present day, Johan is a small-town loner. He has a flair for horses and explosives. A combination that finds him in constant conflict with the community. Whilst he's comfortable not having a place in society, Johan's dream is to win over the love of his life, Solvor, who he accidentally blew up a bit when they were kids.

"Everybody Hates Johan is an entertaining slice of sometimes outrageous Scandinavian storytelling."

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
