Poll: How do you think we should vote for councillors?
Whangārei District Council has decided to keep its First Past the Post system for the 2022 election, but voters could demand a poll that could see the system changed to Single Transferable Vote, if there is enough support. In brief, First Past the Post is where voters give a tick to the candidate they support, and the one with the most ticks wins. Single Transferable Vote is where voters rank candidates in terms of preference, and the one with the most overall support wins. Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
