True Tales of Glenbervie

Barbara from Glenbervie

Have you ever lived in the Glenbervie area (including Whareora, Kiripaka, West Ngunguru)?
If so, you undoubtedly have some favourite – or not-so-favourite – memories of your time spent here.
We need these stories, to be included in a ‘True Tales of Glenbervie’ book being compiled to preserve memories of our way of life, both present and past, for future generations to enjoy and wonder at.
Hikurangi, Kamo, Onerahi, Whangarei Heads and Great Barrier Island are just some of the areas which have already published ‘True Tales’ books. (These can be seen/purchased locally or at Paper Plus stores and the concept can be researched at www.truetales.co.nz...).
Each story is no longer than 1500 words, with several photos where possible.
Please contact Barbara Herman, barb@venture-gear.com or phone 4375347 if you think you have a story to share. We can help you write it if you feel you need help.
Any proceeds from the book will be used to preserve the physical history of the area.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.

Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.

For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.

Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?

We hope this brings a smile!
