Whangarei Film Society - screenings for Thursday May 15th

Geoff from Central Whangarei

Good People

On Thursday, 15th May at 6pm WFS will be screening The Outrun, a powerful film based on Amy Liptrot’s best selling memoir about a woman's return to her home in Scotland.

Our 8pm screening is the heartwarming documentary from Bhutan about census workers who travel the country chatting with the locals about their satisfaction with life, Agent of Happiness.

PLEASE NOTE: After the screening on the 15th May, the next WFS screening will not be until Thursday 19th June as the Forum North venue is not available.

Films are screened at Forum North, 7 Rust Ave Whangarei in the Expo Hall.

You can also renew your memberships for 2025. The annual fee remains at $30 and includes one free ticket.

THE OUTRUN
Scotland, 2024, Drama
112 mins, Rated M (strong language)
Cast: Saoirse Ronan, Paapa Essiedu, Stephen Dillane, Saskia Reeves

Based on Amy Liptrot’s best selling memoir of the same name, Rona is a recovering alcoholic, who returns to her home, the Orkney Islands in Scotland, after hitting rock bottom in London.

But once she is home, Rona finds it difficult to relate. She has had to deal with anarchy her whole life - her father has bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

This movie deftly takes the viewer on her journey of loss and addiction and back again in two intertwined stories - past and present that slip along next to each other, each revealing themselves, piece by piece. And Saoirse Ronan's performance embraces both stories with utter conviction.
