The Whangarei District Council has lodged a Resource Consent Application for the ongoing running (currently holds no consent) and the expansion (approx $200,000) of the Refuse Transfer Station at Parua Bay Boat Ramp.

The consent has not been publically notified as the Industrial activity has been deemed as minor to the community therefore we, the public can not have our say.

As has been evident at various meetings and from feedback from numerous groups and individuals there is a lack of support for an industrial activity and refuse transfer station operating at this public recreational site.

We would prefer to see fisherman, sailors, rowers, walkers, campers and families using the recreational area not more rubbish trucks, seagulls and waste on a prime site under the magnificent Heads vista.

Please see attached a public notice (by local residents) regarding the application and concern this has not been publicly notified.

Please note that time is of the essence to be heard with your local Councillors or WDC staff.

Should CEO's (or whoever) be "liable" someway for "non-won" court cases?

Anthony from Kensington

The opposing party / parties to the case may have their position on the matter determined by their money or lack of it. A CEO may have a source of financial backing from his employer and is prepared to litigate rather than settle. Is it time for CEO's pockets being affected as well? If so … View moreThe opposing party / parties to the case may have their position on the matter determined by their money or lack of it. A CEO may have a source of financial backing from his employer and is prepared to litigate rather than settle. Is it time for CEO's pockets being affected as well? If so why, how, when etc. If not why etc?
I do accept that court is the last resort but is too much of our citizens / community money being wasted? I also understand precedence, bloodymindedness etc
This thread may need to be re-vamped a bit, as responses come in.

Mild conditions mean they survived, and their numbers are increasing every day. Rats are going to be one of the main pests - especially in Auckland. They're capable of producing litters of up to 10 offspring every eight weeks under favourable conditions.

This can have a "massive impact" on our native fauna and flora. Rats are a threat for our native birds, insects, geckos and plants - including species like the yellow head and orange-fronted parakeet. And just like rodents, wasps and other creepy crawlies also like warmer weather. These hungry pests can cause chaos to our food supply as they chew on crops and friendly insects and spoil stored food products.
