Google Plus (Google+)

Peter from Kamo

So, I just recently found out that Google is quietly closing their attempt at competing with Facebook in the 'social media stakes'.

I am posting this here mainly to let anyone know who has stuff on that site, that they'd better hurry to get it off, if they still want it.

I was asked/invited to join that site when it first opened, and I did join, used it to display some of my digital photography (Flickr was in hiatus at that time) - then I read the terms and conditions. And I was out of there like a scalded cat. Google claimed intellectual ownership of everything uploaded. Thanks, but no thanks to that!

And now they have sat on a security bug that has left all the content of the site open to theft for many months and not let anyone know. That is all your personal data on there - up for grabs by any malicious hacker .... appalling!

My respect for Google, while not in free fall, is definitely tarnished. I don't even use their search engine any more; haven't for over a year. Duckduckgo is a viable alternative that does not sell your search history to marketers and is concerned about promoting and preserving privacy ... including making recommendations and providing tools and information.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?

Poll: As a customer, what do you think about automation?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Press investigates the growing reliance on your unpaid labour.

Automation (or the “unpaid shift”) is often described as efficient ... but it tends to benefit employers more than consumers.

We want to know: What do you think about automation?
Are you for, or against?
