From 11am NZST on Thursday 30 April until Sunday 17 May, Artfair.co.nz will be hosting a Virtual Art Fair where you will discover more than 30 galleries from New Zealand and Australia displaying works that would have otherwise been seen at the 2020 Auckland Art Fair.

The Virtual Art Fair is in recognition of the artists who have already made special works for the Auckland Art Fair that couldn’t happen, and the galleries who have supported them in doing so.

“It comes at a time of global uncertainty, when the importance of art, community and culture are especially apparent,” their team said in a recent statement.

The Auckland Art Fair is designed to be “a celebration – as best we can – of the talent and diversity of art making by artists from our region; not only across New Zealand and Australia, but also around the wider Pacific-rim. We hope that, wherever possible, some of these artists and galleries will be supported by someone buying a work of art.”

Browse, look, enquire and consider as you get to know new galleries and artists in support of contemporary culture at a time when the artists and galleries really need it.

You could use a chair like this in a home office, as a plant stand, or as a bedside table for your books and lamp. Painting one chair is an easy way to inject a bit of colour into a room too.

Make the most of this weekend with this easy step by step project idea from Resene.

It amounts to a Government not interested in providing a service. The systems they have set up are ridiculously difficult to access and heaven help anyone taking more than two tries to log in. They will cite security reasons but really it is merely a farce = they would be much better off hiring more staff! Oh the joy when one eventually manages to speak to a real person! I am sick to death of it. I finally sorted out Real Me recently by waiting to speak to a 'real person'on thee phone the next day! No business could run this way, they would lose customers! It is time some data expert looked into the two strikes and your out for 15 mins at the very least. Now I have been shut out from My IRD in attempting to make a claim for donations! Couldn't even access through Real Me so where is the service? My rant for the day.

Quarry Arts Centre - OPEN for staff & artists ONLY

We have reopened in accordance with Alert Level-3 restrictions. Those that come onsite only do so if and when it is necessary to carry-out their work or business and only when government health guidelines can be properly followed.

As of today, we are able to take orders for ceramics supplies, for delivery or contactless pick-up from the carpark, provided the order and payment can be made in-advance. Also, ceramic works that need firing in our kiln can be dropped-off and collected by arrangement. We certainly hope this offers some relief to our community.

Please email admin@quarryarts.org with any enquiries and we will provide assistance.

It is especially pleasing to invite our resident artists to return to use their studios.

For professional artists this is a particularly challenging time. For many artists, their source of livelihood has disappeared, and their prospects are unclear. The Quarry Arts Centre team will continue working with our arts community to find ways to maintain a healthy flow of inspiration and exchange through uncertain times.

To our wider community of artists and enthusiasts, we invite you to reach out to each other and to us, so that we all have the greatest opportunity to reinvent what we create together. In times of crisis like these we are all called upon to make positive changes to how we get things done, as a community.

Unfortunately, we are not yet able to open to the public for casual visits and our ongoing schedule of workshops and exhibitions is still on-hold.

The annual Great Plate event will be going ahead! We’re working to keep it on schedule, in July, and we will keep you all updated. The Great Plate is an important fundraising event on the Quarry Arts Centre calendar with much ado and a great amount of fun had by all. We are so very grateful to our generous community of artists and supporters; ‘throwing’ or sculpting plates, painting, embellishing and donating them for a high-stakes online auction. This year’s event will be especially meaningful in these interesting times.

Thank you all for your ongoing interest in this arts community. Stay in touch.

As New Zealand is now at Alert Level 3, crews are undertaking more work on the Northpower electricity network to ensure the lights stay on and to minimise the risk of any unplanned outages in the lead up to winter.

Crews are strictly following Covid-19 controls and safety remains a number one priority so if you come across Northpower crews working, please stay clear as they are safely inside their work bubbles.

Many Northpower staff are still working remotely from their homes and while Northpower’s offices and depots remain closed to visitors, staff are ready to help. In the event of a power outage in the Whangarei and Kaipara Districts please contact 0800 10 40 40. For other queries call the Northpower Customer Services Team on 0800 667 847.
