Women’s Health - please sign the petition
I know you’re probably extremely busy atm but you spare a minute to support women’s health? This a petition for the contraception “Marina” to be fully funded in New Zealand.
The Marina is a hormone-releasing IUD and it’s currently listed as an essential medicine by the WHO. Most OECD countries cover the cost of the Marina however, NZ is an exception and access to the Marina is subject to stringent funding restrictions. The Marina is only funded for women with anemia otherwise it costs between $400 and $600.
The Marina is one of the most effective, acceptable and well tolerated forms of contraception. It reduces monthly pains, is a management strategy for endometriosis and it reduces endometrial hyperplasia, a precursor to endometrial cancer.
The Marina has been available in NZ for over 20 years but the current restrictions make it unaffordable for many women, prompting further health inequality in NZ.
Thank you for taking the time to read/sign and please pass the petition on.
