Loving homes needed for 2 beautiful cats…..
Hello neighbours,
Do you know a lovely cat person who would be keen to adopt one of my beautiful cats? I am leaving NZ and unable to take them with me, which has been a very tough decision and is absolutely heartbreaking… so I need to find them the perfect home.
Sammy (9yrs) and Possum (approx. 9yrs) are the most wonderful cats I have ever met (and I have worked in cat rescues) They found me after having been abandoned/unwanted. They are both gentle natured boys, are very affectionate and love company. So it is important to find them kind and loving homes. They do not need to be re-homed together as they are more of acquaintances than friends.
Both love the company of people and would do well with someone who is home often. They will appreciate a quieter household and would not take well to dogs or children. They would be fine with other easy-going cats or animals and birds as they are not hunters. I have rescued and re-homed a number of cats over the time they have been with me, so they are good at adapting. They are well house trained and love the outdoors, especially hanging out on the deck in the sunshine with you. They enjoy their freedom but can be kept in at night with a litter tray. We have always lived on larger properties and next to bush, so I would love to find a similar ,suitable environment for them. They would not do well in high density housing or being too close to busy/noisy roads/areas.
Sammy (a beautiful black Persian) came to me 4yrs ago, via friends of friends, who were moving house. They were going to give him to the SPCA but I thought I would help re-home him – within 48hrs he had made himself at home and settled so well (with my 4 cats), I decided to let him stay. Sam is quite the character, very easy going but more of a people cat and would make a lovely companion for someone who is home often. When I worked from home he slept on my desk or close by. He loves a pat/cuddle and has a lovely loud purr.
Possum is my big beautiful boy, so gentle and loving and always keen to rest alongside me on the sofa as he is too large for my lap. He is a big cat, a little overweight, at present, due to my neighbour, but I am working to improve that. He was abandoned in Matakatia and I was contacted having advertised my missing cat, who was the spitting image. I tried to find his owners, but no one came forward. He has such a beautiful nature I decided to take care of him. The vet said he was approx. 2yrs when I found him, so he has been with me for 7yrs. He is a sensitive soul and when I met him, spent a lot of time up trees where he felt safe (hence the name).
This is an incredibly hard decision for me and I need to make sure their new homes are perfect as they are so special.
If you can help or know anyone that may be interested, I would really appreciate your help.
Thank you for reading.

Some Choice News!
DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.
Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.
For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.
Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?
We hope this brings a smile!
