Silverdale Park and Ride
Having the park and ride expanded is great but it got me wondering. Does the expansion look big enough. I personally dont think it will be looking at all of the cars parked elsewhere currently. The council has an opportunity to make it a multiple story carpark , if they are smart move and if not, is making something more future proof to far sighted for them. And if it is to far sighted what good is the council then. Whangaparaoa Pen needs a park and ride up there some where too with dedicated buses going to and from the city without stopping. And if they are building a whole lot more houses on the other side of the motorway by Millwater than they need to be building a park and ride now near there so it is ready for the future development not wait until the people come. The people in Millwater will probably use it anyway. Ideally there needs to be trains or something similar all over Auckland. There used to be. There once were trams going to almost every suburb. Why not put a monorail high up down the center of the motorways. And public transport should it be privately owned trying to make a profit. Most countries public transport don't. If you have parking available in the city I discovered it was actually cheaper for me to drive in than to take public transport, what does that tell you about the price. If I did that every week I would save over $500 a year not to mention have the convenience of the car and yes its a petrol not and electric. Actually if everyone had electric cars why would you even take public transport apart for some specific reason. Where is the incentive to take public transport. Technically its not really cheap. It doesn't really go anywhere sure its fine if you work in the heart of the CBD but if you work in Ponsonby or Greylynn l or newton etc it becomes a very long journey. If I took a but outside my house to go to a park and ride it would add 30 to 45 minutes to my journey when taking the car would be only 5 to 10 minutes.
