Toxic algae found in North Canterbury's Ashley River

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from Northern Outlook

One week since a warning was issued about toxic algae in Lake Pegasus, another North Canterbury site has the same problem.

The Canterbury District Health Board issued a health warning on Monday for the Ashley/Rakahuri River at the Rangiora-Loburn Bridge (also called the Cones Rd Bridge) after potentially toxic blue-green algae (benthic cyanobacteria) was found there.

People and animals, particularly dogs, should avoid the area until the health warning has been lifted.
