Dead man's penny to be reunited with family after lengthy search for descendants
A WWI memorial plaque will be returned to descendants of its owner, 101 years after it was issued.
The plaque – also known as a death penny, dead man's penny or widow's penny – was for Robert Joseph Crossen who died at Ypres in Belgium less than one year after enlisting to fight in World War I. He was 27.
The plaque will finally be handed over to Crossen's grand-nephew, David Crossen, on Armistice Day, November 11, at the Oxford Cenotaph.
