Miramar incidents

The Team from Wellington District Police

Wellington Police have impounded eight vehicles in a recent operation targeting drivers doing burnouts in Miramar.

A number of residents expressed their frustration and concern with an increase in this activity around the suburb, including near the old Mt Crawford Prison.
The operation has run for four weeks and involved significant input from members of the community who have witnessed this behaviour.
Miramar Community Constable Hoani Siueva said Police won’t tolerate dangerous driving.

Over the coming weeks, Police will continue to monitor the situation, make enquiries, and assess any information gathered. This includes following up reports where enforcement action was unable to be taken at the time.

If you see unlawful activity, like burnouts, tell us as soon as possible and provide as much information as you can do safely. In cases where we can’t immediately respond, we use that information to follow up with drivers and take enforcement action at a later date.

If it’s happening now, call Police via 111. If it’s after the fact, please make a report at 105.
Alternatively, you can report information anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
