DCM Bookfair, Saturday 17 August, Shed 6, 8am-6pm

The Team from DCM

DCM’s 24th annual, fundraising Bookfair will be held on Saturday 17 August 2019 at Shed 6, Queen’s Wharf, from 8am-6pm.

DCM works with people in the city of Wellington who are experiencing homelessness, supporting them to find and sustain housing, and to journey to wellbeing. We have adopted the byline “together we can end homelessness” which reflects the many people in our city who are part of our work – from the dentists who volunteer time at the DCM Dental Service to the many Wellingtonians who love and support our iconic annual DCM Bookfair.

This year DCM is celebrating its 50th birthday, and we are holding our 24th DCM Bookfair. With some 70,000 books, as well as vinyl, CDs and DVDs, it is an event that all Wellington book lovers look forward to. Mark the date in your diary – Saturday 17 August – come along with a group of friends and take the opportunity to enjoy brunch and a catch-up together while you are in the city. The local cafés are often full of our supporters browsing through their purchases or fuelling up before they head to the Bookfair. It’s a great day out and, even better, an opportunity to be part of the solution to homelessness in our city.

And as people who love to read, you will enjoy reading the uplifting stories we share on our website – about the success that your support makes possible – visit www.dcm.org.nz...

Because together we CAN end homelessness in our city.

Details about where you can donate books can be found here: www.dcm.org.nz...

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Reserve Bank has shared some pretty blunt advice: there’s no such thing as a “safe” job anymore 🛟😑

Robots are stepping into repetitive roles in factories, plants and warehouses. AI is taking care of the admin tasks that once filled many mid-level office jobs.

We want to know: As the world evolves, what skills do you think give a CV the ultimate edge in a robot-filled workplace?

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.

Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.

For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.

Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?

We hope this brings a smile!
