Wakefield Specialist Centre Newtown - warning it's difficult to find!

Charlotte from Khandallah

Just a shout out to anyone with a referral to the above in Newtown - it's difficult to find (or at least we found it so). Luckily we had just enough time to get there for an ultrasound scan but the referral form didn't give a street address and we don't have smartphones. We drove up and down Rintoul St and around the block, and in the end asked help from a helpful pedestrian - it was on the other side of the road and back several metres. There was new fencing and an impressive block building but no signage whatsoever to indicate what the building was. We've been there several times for ultrasounds and X-rays but it was nothing like we remembered. The receptionist told us we weren't unique and she had many similar comments from others with the same complaint and asked us to fill in a feedback form which we did. (And a smartphones wouldn't have helped either!)

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.

Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.

For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.

Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?

We hope this brings a smile!
