At this meeting Dr Peter Stephens is going to speak to us about the Bar Code system and its evolution.
The Bar Code system we now have on every product we buy commenced in 1970 when a standardised product code was defined. Bar code scanners and systems started to be deployed in the mid 1970s. This system has revolutionised the product supply chain management world wide.
Dr Peter Stevens has been Chief Executive of GS1 New Zealand since January 2004. GS1 is involved in the supply chain management solutions business and assigns international codes to new products. Today we now also have a similar technology Q-codes. What is the future for the Bar Code?

Yes I know she was in the wrong darting across the street like that, but for goodness sake, don't shout out, "You stupid little girl, don't you dare do that again!!" Yes I have tried to instill road safety in my children, but we've all seen kids dart out without thinking. She didn't see you behind the parked cars, and you were travelling WAY too fast next to a kindy and school entrance! I apologised to you profusely and you still just shouted back. A little care would have been lovely!
Rant over.
