Encroachments
Hi there for those who’s properties have encroachments (there are nearly 6,000 properties in Wellington with them) have you compared the cost WCC charge for them compared to what you would pay if the land was charged the same as your rates. I have a 30sqm strip across the front of my place for which I’m charged $653.70/year. If I owned the land I’d pay $191.32/year on top of my rates.
How is this fair. This piece of land is not usable by anyone other than us and provides little utility other than we cross it to get into our house. I’ve emailed WCC asking how they calculate the rate/square metre but haven’t heard back yet. If you’re interested in being involved in following up further on this let me know either here or via messenger.
Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
-
59% Yes, supporting people is important!
-
26% No, individuals should take responsibility
-
15% ... It is complicated
