"Greater Wellington Regional Council's chief executive has been pulled from other duties to focus exclusively on fixing Wellington's new bus network.
Sustainable transport committee deputy chairman Daran Ponter said councillors agreed earlier this week to request chief executive Greg Campbell to put all his efforts into rectifying the Wellington city bus system.
This underlines how seriously we're taking this issue," Ponter said."
Obviously the public outcry is starting to work!
"Extra services have started on three Wellington bus routes, while seats removed from some buses to increase capacity could be put back. ... From Thursday, extra peak-time services were added to the No. 2 service between Karori and Seatoun, and numbers 3 and 36 between Lyall Bay and Wellington."
"Regional councillor Daran Ponter, the sustainable transport committee's deputy chairman, has questioned whether the seats needed to be removed at all ... Get civilised again and put the seats back."

This has been the Greater Wellington Regional Council's answer to the problem of services which "had been plagued by overcrowding, delays and cancellations, primarily caused by operator NZ Bus running buses that were too small, and hence filled up too quickly".
Can this situation get any crazier? Now many people on the routes which were complained about have to stand instead because GWRC has taken many of the seats out! At a time when school children are no longer supposed to stand on buses for safety reasons, too. How can this possibly be a good idea?

(The photos here don't do it justice in my opinion.) Please phone if you have questions rather than posting here please, as I'm sharing it on his behalf. Thanks!
