Extreme caution is advised across New Zealand today as MetService has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch which remains in force for Nelson, Buller, Taranaki, Manawatu, Kapiti-Horowhenua, Wellington and Marlborough.

The National Emergency Management Agency has instructed residents leading up to the storms to:
- Take shelter, preferably indoors away from windows;
- Avoid sheltering under trees, if outside;
- Get back to land, if outdoors on the water;
- Move cars under cover or away from trees;
- Secure any loose objects around your property;
- Check that drains and gutters are clear;
- Be ready to slow down or stop, if driving.

Once the storm is over, caution is needed outside or when driving as there may be fallen trees and power lines. It is best to avoid streams and drains as there is chance of being swept away in flash flooding.

You can check the official warnings in place on the MetService website.

Those in Taranaki can keep up to date at the Taranaki Emergency Management website.

I was busy at that time and refused any discussion with them and said I don't need an insurance, thanks.

Wondering if they have knocked any other neighbor's door on Darlington Road?

Tilly and her brother Preston are looking for a new home. Can you help them.

"I am a big lover of all things treats and cuddles, and will win you over the first chance I get! My brother and I haven't had the best life before arriving at the SPCA but have since had a bit of a makeover and are feeling better as each day passes. We love having the human companionship and comfort of home life but it doesn't compare to the real thing! Now is the time where we are ready to find a home who is committed to dog ownership and all it involves. I am not suited to a home with cats or smaller animals. I would prefer a home either with my brother Preston or by myself. If I do go home by myself, I'd want someone home part time or full time. I am not keen on places like dog parks or daycare. To be honest, the perfect day would be a nice walk then lazing at home! I'm more comfortable with adults or teenage children than little humans."

Starting guitar lessons on a 3/4 size guitar

I remember starting on a full-size steel-string guitar. I could barely get my arm over the body and the string cut deep into my fingers, it was painful. Enter the 3/4 size guitar.

Pain-free guitar playing
The introduction of the 3/4 size guitar has meant that kids can now learn guitar pain-free and start at an earlier age.

Physical strength
Because we use very unique muscles to play guitar when we start it is quite literally like learning to walk again. This is one of the reasons it takes years to learn. Piano, drums and vocals (to some extent) use muscles that are already in use so physically these instruments are a lot easier to play.

How much should I spend?
In New Zealand the cost of a 3/4 size guitar is around the $200 mark. Compared to other instruments this is very affordable. There is quite a difference in a 3/4 size guitar that costs $150 compared to $250. If you can afford the slightly more expensive guitar then it's money worth spending. The sound is better and they may last a little longer, in saying that there is nothing wrong with learning on the cheaper option too. The main thing is to get them started and give them lots of encouragement (and maybe the odd lesson along the way).

Rocking regards
