Friday Feathered Friend

Nicholas Boyack Reporter from Community News

As usual some lovely words and photo by Louise Thomas.

"There have been some epic grey warbler/riroriro (Gerygone igata) battles in the back garden the past couple of weeks – well, as epic as it gets for something that weighs in at 6g. What I assume are three males have been wittering away and chasing each other around quite a small area when they disagree about who won the singing competition – little flashes of aerodynamic grey fluff battling for supremacy of the Acer palmatum conveniently sandwiched between a camellia, a kowhai, and a robust trellis covered in potato vine they seem to like climbing in. Having grey warblers in permanent residence here in Woburn, Lower Hutt is quite new (at least in my garden), with them only having turned up earlier this year. I hope they don’t exhaust themselves before they get to do any actual courting. This was taken last week, it is pouring with rain today so a temporary cease fire has been called. Fingers crossed they nest here."

KENT TERRACE, WELLINGTON CENTRAL - BURST PIPE AFFECTING TRAFFIC

Wellington Water from Wellington Water

Update 2, 8:10am 21/8

Crews are investigating reports of no service or low water pressure in higher areas of Roseneath. This may also affect areas of Mt Victoria.

We’ll provide more information as the investigation continues.

--------------------------------------

Update 1, 7:40am 21/8

In the interest of public safety, the inside lane of Kent Terrace has been closed. To minimise delays, please use the Oriental Bay route to Wellington Airport if required.
Crews are working at pace to isolate the area and complete the repair, and have turned the water off. No customers should be affected - if you are experiencing a loss of service, please let us know.
Please see the map below for the approximate area affected.
If you have experienced any property damage from the burst, it's best to contact your insurer in the first instance, then report this to the Wellington City Council customer contact team: wellington.govt.nz...

--------------------------------------

Kia ora Wellington,

A burst pipe has caused flooding on Kent Terrace, between Vivian Street and Buckle St (approximately).

Crews are onsite, and we're awaiting urgent traffic management so we can undertake the repair.

While we wait for traffic management, we're asking people to avoid the area if possible, and if not please expect delays. We appreciate that this is a main route, so are doing all we can to minimise impact on commuters.

At this stage, we don't expect a shutdown to affect any properties but will provide more information as the repair progresses.

It's a major repair and we expect it to take between 8 -10 hours.

We'll keep you updated on our social channels.
