The votes for all finalists have been tallied and they have been chosen by Neighbourly members across the country as the Prospa Local Business Hero of 2024.
The Puketapu Hotel was nominated by a local called Margaret and the nomination reads:
'On Feb 14, 2023, Cyclone Gabrielle flooded many of the rural areas. Puketapu Hotel went under perhaps half a meter of water. However, immediately Mary Danielson and her son, Sam Danielson, along with their loyal staff pulled it together to cook copious amounts of food that without electricity would have been wasted. Throughout the years many of us have been treated with a pub gathering where we can reconnect and a free meal. At Christmas there was Santa, games, gifts for kids, donated patchwork for adults, an ice cream truck and lots of camaraderie.
This February on the cyclone anniversary, they again pulled out the stops to give hundreds of us a special night. We are all tired of the cyclone cleanup and they understood that it was needed.'
Such a deserving business and team, well done Mary and Sam. And thank you to all those who voted!

"No" said the man, "We are not Countdown (despite what the outside signage says) and we no longer do this." I stopped to argue politely with him, until he turned his back on me and walked away a few steps. Standing my ground got another member of staff telling him to give me a bag (so the Lotto line could start working again).
Imagine my surprise when I rang the Woolworths help line to hear that as far as Woolworths are concerned, the 'Bags for Good' are still be honoured - apparently it says so on their main website.
So if you have a damaged bag, do not let the store personnel tell you 'No', just stand your ground because you are in the right.

The consultation now offered was required by law prior to development of the DMAPS concept.
Looking through Airways New Zealand OIA documents Plane Sense received, we found references to community consultation as long ago as November 2021, but alongside that was mention that the local community could be a "roadblock", suggestions that "impact frequently comes down to perception, influenced by publicity", and "Airways would like this implemented in December this year. We (Wellington Airport) therefore need this work reasonably quickly!" Even the Airnoise Committee meeting minutes don't reference the DMAPs flight path change until March 2023, after implementation. The first communication went up on the Wellington Airport website on 20 December 2022, a day after the first known complaint was made.
Understandably, residents are angry about the lack of courtesy, consistency, professionalism and regard for our community and affected individuals. We believe the organisations have been cavalier with residents' health and well-being.
Plane Sense is holding Wellington International Airport, Airways New Zealand, Civil Aviation Authority of NZ and Wellington City Council (as a shareholder) to account for a change that happened over the northern suburbs on 1 December 2022. As well as significant legal issues, there are public health and safety concerns for residents and our local environment. Plane Sense is fundraising to commence a judicial review. Have questions?
