Big news for the region as our Dark Skies acknowledged!

Denise Landow from Destination Wairarapa

Look up at the stars tonight!

The Wairarapa has just received official international Dark Sky Reserve status meaning our night sky is among the best places in the world to view the never-ending star filled skies above.

We’re pretty lucky to have an official Dark Sky Reserve right on our doorstep and only an hour’s drive from Wellington.

Although we can all spot the Southern Cross and the Pot, there’s much more to see! Experts at local dark sky tours Milky Way Kiwi, Stonehenge Aotearoa and Under The Stars, can guide you through the sky with telescopes to help make sense of what’s up above.

Plus, you can still get star action during the day at the Wairarapa Space Science Centre in Carterton, perfect for the whole family.

With Wings Over Wairarapa in February and the Wairarapa Balloon Festival on it's way the sky's the limit!

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
