YOUR MOVERS ARE COMING READY OR NOT?

If you pack like this you can't expect your movers NOT to damage anything! Nor can you expect your movers to be efficient and cost-effective for you!

If you pack like this you can't expect your movers NOT to damage anything! Nor can you expect your movers to be efficient and cost-effective for you!

REASONS WHY THIS IS NOT READY FOR YOUR MOVER

1) If your mover can't load the truck in a safe manner, damages will most likely happen

2) Half-empty boxes will crush causing the load to be unstable

3) Unsealed boxes (top and/or bottom) are not a good idea, this makes them difficult to carry, not stackable, etc...

4) Takes a lot longer to carry out to the truck costing more time

5) Can't get as much into the truck therefore extra time is needed

6) Countdown or New World shopping bags are ok for a few items but definitely not as a replacement for boxes

Moving like this will cost you more in the long run ... Not only just in damages! But, the more time your movers take will cost a lot more than buying some boxes and packing properly. I see this every day, I understand that moving is stressful and can be very expensive, but if you do it right ... it's really quite a simple task.

5 GOLDEN RULES FOR A COST-EFFECTIVE MOVE:

1) As soon as you decide that you are going to move, start collecting banana boxes from several local supermarkets! They're FREE so get more than you need ... much more! Whatever you don't use they can be given away or recycled!

2)Anything that can fit in a box goes in a box! You'll need to buy a few larger boxes but not many for those bigger items. This is dependent on your house lot though :-)

3) Don't be afraid to get friends, family, neighbors, and even your 10yo+ kids, and their mates to help carry boxes etc to the truck. Remember, many hands make for a quick move.

4) If you can, dismantle any furniture that can be dismantled. For example, computer desks are commonly damaged because they're so flimsy. Remove the legs of the dining room table, of the couches, of the beds! This makes it faster for the movers to get out to the truck and faster to wrap, stack and strap in the truck!

5) When you buy some tape, a few boxes, buy a roll of "shrink wrap or pallet wrap" for a 3-bedroom house you'll need around 300 - 500 meter roll. They're around $30-$40 per roll, wrap all your chests of draws, cupboards, fridges etc ... This will stop the draws/cupboards from opening when being carried ... again, much faster for the movers not to mention eliminating the draws from being damaged by falling out.
