WCC Draft District Plan submissions are due on Tuesday 14th December

Rhona Carson from Newtown Residents' Association Inc

Have you made a submission yet? It is important for all voices to be heard, so if you have opinions about the proposals in the Draft District Plan do tell the Wellington City Council about them!
On the WCC Website you will find information about the DDP, and also helpful videos about how to read and understand the plan and about how to make a submission.
There are enormous changes proposed for most of Wellington, including for Newtown where large areas have been zoned for 'at least 6 storeys'. We love Newtown and look forward to sharing our unique suburb with more people, but if the District Plan goes through in it's current form the shading from tall buildings will damage the qualities that make sunny sheltered Newtown a great place to live. There is a better way - careful mapping has shown that more than 2000 new homes can be provided by selective up-zoning of areas of Newtown where substantial mixed use apartment developments can be accommodated without significant damage to the rest of residential Newtown. A Newsletter we sent out yesterday explored these issues further - see the Campaign Archive link.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
