Calls for final flourish in feathered fray
The Wellington City Council is in a flap over alleged controversy in the BIrd of the Year contest.
It is backing the hihi (stitchbird) but a a progress report on voting has the council talking to its lawyers.
In the event of a loss in the polls, it is understood #teamhihi supporters have been in touch with Wellington landscaping businesses over the availability of their carparks.
The council had controversially tweeted to "stop the count" but was now calling for "every legal vote to be counted".
“If the hihi doesn’t win it’ll be a little hawkward, but we’ll have no egrets,” a council source said.

Central city
Was amused to see in the daily that an inner-city resident thought a Central Park would be good to have in Wellington. Not sure how wise it is to advertise its existence as I do appreciate its peace as opposed to the Botanical Gardens, but yes, we do have a large mature park by that name which is accessible by a shortish walk up Willis Street and onto Brooklyn Hill.
