Wellington getting behind the hihi
It is time to get in behind yellow and black for the Bird of the Year.
From November 2-15, Bird of the Year Te Manu Rongonui o Te Tau 2020 is back showcasing our native birds and encouraging Kiwis to vote for their favourite feathered friend.
This year the Wellington City Council is backing the hihi (also known as the stitchbird).
The total population of the hihi is unlikely to exceed 2000 birds.
Wellington's Zealandia is thought now to have the largest mainland population.
Wellington sports teams The Pulse and The Phoenix are also supporting the hihi – the bird that sports their team colours.

Was amused to see in the daily that an inner-city resident thought a Central Park would be good to have in Wellington. Not sure how wise it is to advertise its existence as I do appreciate its peace as opposed to the Botanical Gardens, but yes, we do have a large mature park by that name which is accessible by a shortish walk up Willis Street and onto Brooklyn Hill.

At the post-Cabinet press conference, the National Party asserted they want public sector staff to return to the office. This has opened a conversation about other sectors in New Zealand who have adopted working from home (WFH).
