From today, 31 March, the ban on using garden sprinklers in Wellington, Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt and Porirua is lifted.
The four cities have been under a sprinkler ban that was introduced in mid-February due to particularly dry conditions.

Thanks to the response from the community, and the change in season, the region’s storage lakes are now in good shape.

This means restrictions can now be eased to allow for the limited use of garden sprinklers and irrigation systems. This is a good position to be in, but it’s important that people keep being responsible with water usage.

Watering restrictions are still in place, these allow the use of a single sprinkler or irrigation system, between the hours of 6-8 am and 7-9pm only on alternate days according to your house number.

Sprinkler use is permitted at:
• odd-numbered houses on odd dates (1st, 3rd, 15th etc)
• even-numbered houses on even dates (2nd, 4th, 18th etc)
only between the hours of 6-8am and 7-9pm.

This restriction level will remain in place until further notice, or the end of Daylight Savings (5 April 2020) – except in Upper Hutt, where this restriction remains in place all year round.

Sharing of items between households at this time of lockdown

Pamela from Berhampore

Kia ora everyone
I just heard an interview on Radio NZ with Dr Siouxsie Wiles just after 11am today Tues 24 March. The recommendation was not to share any items between individual household groups of people at this time of being in isolation in order to help contain spread of the Covid 19 virus.

Offering to sharing items or give away things between neighbours might seem a generous thing to do but is really not advisable at this time.

I stress however that I am not an expert. Please listen to the interview online for yourself. Stay safe.

Stay home. It WILL save lives.
Let’s all remember why we are taking such extreme measures.
Staying home won’t always be easy. But the evidence tells us this is the best way to save the lives of other New Zealanders.

Finding our routines
It will take some time to build up new daily routines. That’s to be expected. We all need to be gentle with ourselves, and accept that things could be difficult for a while as we learn to adjust.

Looking after ourselves and others
Don’t forget to take time to look after yourself, and also to check-in on others. Asking someone how they are feeling is a good way to connect and show that you care.

We all need to stick to the plan
For this to work, and the effort we are all making to be worth it, we all need to stick to the plan, all the time. No exceptions.

Don’t move around
The virus is spread by us. So we all need to avoid moving around as much as possible. If you do go out for exercise or to get essential supplies, stay local. This is incredibly important. Don’t move between different areas.

Thank you for doing your bit
A massive thank you to everyone for working so hard to slow the spread of COVID-19. Together, we can and will save lives.
