There are enormous changes proposed for most of Wellington, including for Newtown where large areas have been zoned for 'at least 6 storeys'. We love Newtown and look forward to sharing our unique suburb with more people, but if the District Plan goes through in it's current form the shading from tall buildings will damage the qualities that make sunny sheltered Newtown a great place to live. There is a better way - careful mapping has shown that more than 2000 new homes can be provided by selective up-zoning of areas of Newtown where substantial mixed use apartment developments can be accommodated without significant damage to the rest of residential Newtown. A Newsletter we sent out yesterday explored these issues further - see the Campaign Archive link.

Within hours of word getting out about the Burmese family’s plight, donors replaced their car, and a crowdfunding campaign raised nearly $24,000. Husband and wife A Noung and Than Than Nyain, along with their sons Mu Gay and Win Naing Soe, settled in Wellington in 2019 after fleeing ethnic violence in Myanmar.
Through a translator, A Noung said his eldest son, Mu Gay, who owned the stolen car, was dancing for joy when he saw the generosity of more than 500 benefactors.
Ben and Geraldine Everist donated their Mazda Premacy to the family..
Insurance and a steering wheel lock were also purchased for it in case of a repeat incident.

I have 20 sqm of used, brick-red concrete pavers free for pick-up in Brooklyn. The pavers are 190 x 230 mm and 45 mm high. We removed the pavers and carried them up to the top stair at the gate, but the taker will need to transport them 30 meter along a council walkways to the street (no stairs) so this might be a 2 or 3 person job! The pavers have been set in sand so there is no concrete to scrap off.
They are old but not in bad shape. I have water blasted a few rows, and the colour comes back nicely. We have cleaned any sand or dirt before we stacked them :).
Cheers!

Tickets are now on sale and you'll be able to book your bus transport too.
At Harvest, vineyards pair up with regional restaurants and produce outstanding local festival dishes. You can sample wines from not only the larger, better known Wairarapa wineries but also from some of the smaller boutique wineries in the region. You'll even get the opportunity to meet the wine makers from the vineyards involved. Festival goers can relax under the old trees listening to live music.
The festival is held at a beautiful, sheltered riverside setting locally known as ‘The Cliffs' on the banks of the Ruamahunga River at the end of Dakins Road in rural Wairarapa, just 10 minutes drive from both Masterton and Carterton. Festival goers can come via train from Wellington and take a shuttle buses to get to the festival - it's all part of a great day. Tickets are here: outwww.iticket.co.nz...
