31/03/2023: Brooklyn lights -O/T/C intersection update from Fulton Hogan the WCC contractor
Brooklyn lights update (31/03/2023) - O/T/C intersection Good morning. Here is the latest update from Fulton Hogan. Hang in there, the contractiors are nearly done ...
"Hi all,
Just an update on the intersection improvements which are finally drawing to a close. In between the rain this week we managed to pour the new kerb and channel on the final corner outside the old wish skin spa building. With a clear run of weather and no other disruptions, this corner should be completed by the end of next week – Thursday 6 April. Until then, some of the pedestrian crossing will likely be closed until the light poles can be reinstated.
Then we’ll have to revisit the corner outside Salty Pidgin to install some sub-soil drainage that will help with the water issues. These were only decided upon after we’d initially completed that corner. We’ve also been requested to attend to some failures in the road while we’re there. These patches are right in the intersection and different to the ones further up Todman Street, which were finally remediated recently. We will do our best to keep the pedestrian crossing here open, but the patches are extremely close so it may not be possible from a safety perspective.
The final requirement for us and our sub-contractor is to install an overhanging traffic light pole and install some new line marking. Conversations are on-going as to whether the light pole installation takes place at night or can be done during the day, but it is scheduled to take place after the other remaining work. The vast majority of line marking will be done at night and will have little impact. However, please remember to drive carefully while everyone gets used to the new layout.
Our estimated new finish date is Friday 21 April. I’m sure you’re all eager to see us gone but I do have to advise that, following completion of the intersection, we will have a crew starting work at the top end of Todman Street, uphill from the kindergarten, and into Mitchell Street preparing for eventual road resurfacing sometime between October 2023 and April 2024.
Thanks,
Michael “Chewy” Chew | Programme and Delivery Manager | Fulton Hogan Ltd"

Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?
An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.
When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
