SPCA Pet of the Day: Meet Peggy

Reporter Community News

“Hi, I'm Grandma Peggy. I am a very loveable, sweet and gorgeous old girl. Since I arrived here at the SPCA, I have been in foster care with my lovely foster mum, who has showered me with love and affection, and has allowed me to let my personality flourish. I melt the hearts of everyone whenever they come in to see me, even my caregivers. My favourite things to do during my day, is to sleep outside on my bed on the verandah (even when it's a bit chilly), and when it's sunny, I like to follow the sun. I would love to go to a home where there may be a big backyard I can lay in during the day (when I'm allowed outside), or somewhere that gets a lot of sun during the day. Because of my long fur, I will need help maintaining it, especially as I get older. Luckily I enjoy having my fur brushed. I will love to be able to spend time with my new family during the day, helping out in the garden, or sitting with you on the couch watching a movie together. Because I am an older girl, I do have arthritis. This means that my joints can sometimes be a bit stiff. I may not do well in a home with a lot of stairs, and I may eventually need help getting up onto things. If you have room in your home and heart for me to live out my retirement years, please make an appointment to come in and meet me. I do come with medical waivers my new family will need to be made aware of, but we can chat about this when you come to meet me “

Summer on the South Coast

Trevor from Breaker Bay

Summer is here again! Fantastic weather beckoning all to get out and enjoy it.
So my request is, if you are cycling, running, walking on our beautiful south coast roads between Breaker Bay and Ohwiro Bay - please be courteous to all road users, even those of us stuck in cars.
The roads are scenic, but they are also narrow, with lots of blind corners. This makes it very difficult for faster moving traffic (cars) to pass slower moving traffic (cycles, walkers, runners). On a bad day this can result in frustrated cars making rash decisions to overtake - putting everyone in danger.
If you are enjoying the coast road on a cycle, and there are cars behind you, please do be considerate and pull over when you have a chance so that they can pass. "Hugging the left" does not really help on a narrow road with blindspots. Stopping is ideal.
If you are enjoying coast on foot, please be conscious of visibility and stay off the road where possible.
If you are enjoying the coast in a car, please be courteous to others - good will spreads, unfortunately so does selfishness.
Lastly - everyone watch out for penguins, they were here first but they don't read Neighbourly or road signs.
Happy and Safe summer everyone.

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.

This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.

Do you think this ban is reasonable?
